The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes was a British TV series from the early 70s that dramatized stories written contemporaneously with the Sherlock Holmes stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This anthology contains twelve of the thirteen stories adapted as episodes for the first season. Sadly, one story, "The Missing Witness Sensation" by Ernest Bramah, is not public domain in the U.S., but can be read in the anthology Max Carrados Mysteries. (Summary by Nullifidian) (11 hr 3 min)

Reviews

some good mystery writers short stories

(4 stars)

I enjoyed these short mysteries all were well narrated. Stories are good but to short I felt. I really enjoyed some more than others but a nice change of pace and a good collection thanks to all the narrators & LibriVox for these fine tales.

some stories are better than others.

I wasn't sure at first if I would finish this collection of stories. I did not enjoy the first two at all but the later stories were better and I'm glad I listened on. The first reader was so fast I had a hard time following and the second story itself I found to be boring. Some of the later stories were read with heavy accents. Also some used very racist phases so be prepared to cringe a lot.

So so - Ho hum

This compilation is only sort of okay. Some of the readings are okay, some not so much, and some of the stories are okay, and some not so much. I guess if you are in need of short stories this will fit the bill.

TV version was much better and I always prefer book over TV but these just were not that exciting to me. No problems with readers thanks for readings and I agree with other judgement if you just want short stories its ok

Pretty good

(4 stars)

There is sometimes a big variation in readers and recording quality but overall i enjoyed these stories.

A joy for lovers of Holmes.
