The American Senator
Anthony Trollope
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
The American Senator is a novel written in 1875 by Anthony Trollope. Although not one of Trollope's better-known works, it is notable for its depictions of rural English life and for its many detailed fox hunting scenes. In its anti-heroine, Arabella Trefoil, it presents a scathing but ultimately sympathetic portrayal of a woman who has abandoned virtually all scruples in her quest for a husband. Through the eponymous Senator, Trollope offers comments on the irrational aspects of English life. (Description by Wikipedia) (21 hr 39 min)

Reviews
Classic Trollope
TwinkieToes
A fun story which pokes some fun at at a stereotypical know-it-all, outspoken American (and, conversely, the British institutions he criticizes), yet is mostly within Trollope's regular style as a story about love within the framework of society. Readers are good, aside from Alisson Veldhuis - who, while reading very well, needs to learn how to edit out her mistakes.

Outstanding readers with great voices and appropriate accents! The book was surprisingly good, considering it is not very well known.
Worthwhile Trollope: Three Novels Together, and social criticism

A very complete Trollope novel, including his family's send up of Americans (his mother wrote a scathing attack called "The Domestic Manners of the Americans"). This one has it all, including Trollope's great descriptions of fox hunting, both gentle and bold heroines, effete aristocrats, and of course Trollope's deep understanding if money and possession. if you are looking for a quintessential and compleat single Trollope novel, you can"t do better. Good readers, too.
