The Exemplary Novels of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

(4.4 stars; 7 reviews)

Originally compiled by Cervantes himself in 1613 as a collection of "exemplary" stories, this translated version from 1881 brings these stories to the English reader. Included in the collection are twelve stories selected by Cervantes, including "A Deceitful Marriage," which famously transitions seamlessly and humorously into the "Dialogue Between Scipio and Berganze". Well Read Stories, One Warning/Spoiler

(4 stars)

These are well-read stories, and for the most part are really good in content as well. One warning (and spoiler): I was a little put aback by (I think it was) The Force of Blood, in which the girl is raped by a stranger, but falls in love with him and marries him in the end. It will probably be offensive to anyone who has been sexually assaulted.

"The Force of Blood" made me sick

(3 stars)

Different societal norms, different culture, but "The Force of Blood" was horrible. The girl is raped, and years later, everyone is happy and rejoicing that she and her rapist are married! He never has any negative consequences of his actions. Sick.

I is good to hear the books, but it takes time to digest it,so the book must be heard more then one time,it should be as meniy so it will make difference
