A collection of four short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the common theme of which is New Hampshire's White Mountains. Consists of: The Great Stone Face, written in 1850 and revolves around the 'Old Man of the Mountain (Cannon Mtn.) in New Hampshire which sadly collapsed on May 3, 2003; The Ambitious Guest, written in 1835; The Great Carbuncle, written in 1837; and Sketches From Memory, written sometime prior to The Great Carbuncle as will become obvious. a notch in the whites

This is my first listen to Hawthorne and it is a different pace and style than any I'm used to and I'm not sure how I like it. I did enjoy very much being brought back into the white mountains. His memories and my own seemed to meld. It is a majestic place to visit. Well read.

A sample of a literary style long gone and never to return to our hurried world. Roger Melin, as always, makes the writing interesting and, perhaps, better than it really is.
