Reviews
Another wonderful novel by Arnold Bennett
A LibriVox Listener
Recently I have rediscovered Arnold Bennett. He must be one of England's finest writers. Anna of the Five Towns is a wonderful story full of good, decent, hard working people. There is no happy or unhappy ending for the main characters. My only criticism is that there were far too many readers for this relatively short novel and it took time to adjust to their accents and tones. However, the readers are volunteers and I appreciate their efforts and time.
Brilliant
A LibriVox Listener
This is another fantastic book by Bennett. I only recently discovered him thanks to Librivox and what a find. Its incredible that he is not better known as he is as good if not a better writer than Dickens, Anthony Trollope and Tnomas Hardy. This is a great story centred, as usual with Bennett,in the 5 towns which is a great backdrop for any story. It isn't in any way predictable and the main character Anna is as interesting a heroine as you can get. Loved the way the story moved along and without wanting to give anything away the ending just hits you out nowhere and leaves you thinking about it more. Readers all did a decent job
Loved It!

Myself and others who know me well would have said that Arnold Bennett was not my kind of writer- How wrong we have proved to be! This latest read for me was equal in excellence to all the others of his that I have read. But for LibriVox I would have not ventured on this experience- so as others have said, Many Thanks LibriVox! I did not think much of this book until the last chapter which made all the difference! Thanks to all the readers for their time and effort! December 2022
The readers ruin the story.

it would have been a good novel if not for the readers' pronunciations and disregard for the flow of the sentences.

AB never disappoints. Only a master storyteller can weave such a seemingly insignificant event into an engrossing tale.
