Theatre Royal
The Queen of Spades
by
Theatre Royal is a British radio drama series presented by Laurence Olivier. Each broadcast offers a self-contained play, bringing a range of theatrical stories and characters to the radio through performance and sound.
The series draws on established plays and adaptations, with Olivier introducing the drama and leading a company of performers. This recording presents The Queen of Spades, a story associated with Alexander Pushkin’s tale of obsession, gambling, and a mysterious secret.
The listening experience is shaped by the contrast between intimate narration and full dramatic scenes. Its theatrical style gives the story room to build atmosphere and tension, making it a compelling choice for listeners drawn to classic drama and literary adaptations.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
