The cheap seats are great for passive spectators. They are the safe choice. They are a place to go unnoticed. They are NOT where God calls us to be! In the stories of our faith God is equipping those who take a risk to be vulnerable. King Josiah was a young man when he heard about the covenant God made with the people of Israel, an agreement that many kings before him had ignored & forgotten. Ignoring God’s call was the cheap seats, an easy choice for kings who were more interested in their own wealth & power than the vitality of their subjects. King Josiah made the choice to “get in the game.” Being in the game means being vulnerable, being willing to learn & grow, opening your ears & heart to the needs of your neighbor and it is in the game that God will empower us to fill roles in bringing God’s vision for our community to life.
